HOW IT FEELS TO BE ONE YEAR, SIX MONTH AND SIX HOURS AHEAD OF AMERICANS.

It sure doesn't feel awesome to see your younger siblings make the same mistake you made when you were their age. But having your elder brother make the same mistake you made over a year ago is a new experience that has to come with its own feeling.

The United States of America is a big brother to Nigeria in more ways than not. We look up to almost everything American even our O.A.Ps try their hardest to sound American. American politicians, especially their Presidents are like the exemplary kids our Nigerian parents try to beat us into anytime we act loutishly and undisciplined. However with the emergence of a loutish and undisciplined President to the White House, who will we Nigerians now use as a yardstick to compare our equally undisciplined politicians to.

In April 2015, President Buhari made away with a win in the general elections against a sitting President, for the first time in the history of African politics. Fast forward to November 2016, a Republican loud mouthed billionaire with no prior experience in holding any political office beats a Democrat woman with vast experience as a former Secretary of States, Senator and First Lady, Both historical. Listening to Donald Trump's acceptance speech this morning, it dawned to me how the USA who has always being six hours behind Nigeria, increased the gap by a whooping one year six months, by voting in, the same type of President we voted for in April 2015. America didn't learn from the Nigerian mistake, "change is all we need, not minding the type". It is true that Donald Trump offered a lot of change to the white majority which constitutes the total voting majority. Changes like, the return of a white man to the White House, white supremacy back and better, less taxation and less capital projects, a big large wall between Texas and Mexico, which Mexico will pay for, among other frivolous things the voting majority fell for, even as these type of changes are not what our world needs now. It is pitiable that in the face of the realistic and experienced political personality of Hillary Clinton, the American electorates have proven not to be wiser than their Nigerian counterparts by voting Donald Trump.

Furthermore, for a candidate like Hillary Clinton to lose this sort of election to a personality like Donald Trump, says all about America's stance on issues bothering on gender, race, religion, morals, and the whole idea of building a free world for all. In a world where we need more bridges, Americans voted for a man resolute on building massive walls, like it’s the middle ages. In a world where we need to love each other more, America voted for a man has sworn to spear us against each other, according to our gender, religion and race.

Dear American's, we are disappointed in your decision, you have just given away your right to preach us anything about equality of the races, gender or religion. Also, as you have fallen for the lying promises Donald Trump, like we fell for Buhari's, you will regret trusting a big barrel of empty promises, just like we are regretting now.

However, looking on the bright side, it feels almost good to know that, just like President Buhari, President Elect. Trump is going to give us (writers and activists) a lot to write about, at least for another four years, and that should be fun.
