Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo is a better all-round player than Lionel Messi as he could still perform at the highest level while at a smaller club.
Ronaldo and Messi have long been accepted as the world's two best players, having shared between them the Ballon d'Or and its predecessor, the FIFA World Player of the Year, for the past seven years.
Ferguson managed Ronaldo during their time together at United and the 73-year-old explained while on BBC Sport why he thinks the Portugal captain is superior to the Barcelona man.
"Many people quite rightly say Messi and you can't dispute that opinion," he said. "[But] Ronaldo could play for Millwall, QPR, Doncaster Rovers, anyone, and score a hat trick. I'm not sure Messi could do that.
"Ronaldo's got two feet, he's quick, great in the air and brave. I think Messi is a Barcelona player."
Ferguson retired from management in 2013 after almost 27 years in charge of United.
When asked what he misses most from the game, Ferguson said: "The camaraderie, humour, mickey-taking and winning -- we're all here to win."
